Giving

Life Again is committed to the concept of the Power of Giving.

Churchill nailed it: We make a living by what we get: We make a life by what we give.”

Philanthropy comes in many forms, including giving of money, time and self. Money is important but giving of yourself is equally important, not just for the recipient but also for yourself. You are emotionally involved.

And philanthropy isn’t what you do when you get older- there is a “new model of philanthropy…in that a individual can create economic value while creating social value simultaneously.” * Why not start in your 20s, 30s and 40s?

Even Harvard Graduates find themselves tired, bored and unfulfilled at 45–when they should be at their peak. MidlIfe Crisis is mainly about boredom. Research has shown that the key is to develop a parallel career–usually in the not-for-profit sector-or working in a soup kitchen!

So it’s never too late to start giving. KD Lang has a great quote: “When you focus on yourself life becomes about suffering. When you focus on other people life becomes about giving.”

Have You Done Your Best Work Yet?

A number of years ago, Gareth met a thumping big man with a heart of gold, Andy Walsh.
Andy Walsh has spent over 30 years in the criminal justice
system working with young offenders.

Before they sat down for coffee, Andy eye-balled Gareth and asked “Have you done your best work yet?” It was a powerful question which was hard to answer.

Gareth stumbled toward a succinct and honest answer but struggled.
Finally it had to be “No”.

It hit a raw nerve and left an emptiness in his heart.
